Sudden Flowers (1999-2014)
"Sudden Flowers" was a fourteen-year-long artistic collaboration with a collective of young people in the Shiromeda/Sidist Kilo neighborhood of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. I have been making photographs, films and installations with them and displaying these works in their neighborhood, throughout the city and the country since 1999. Each of our projects is like a “lyric” in larger poetic structure.
The Sudden Flowers project includes:
Sudden Flowers Photographs (1999-2014)
Mobile Photo Studio (2004)
Laughing Competition (2006)
Yabat Ida Le Lij (2006)
Sudden Flowers, the book (2014)
A prequel to the project is If I Could See Your Face, I Would Not Need Food (or "Ka Fitfitu Feetu") (1999-2004)
