After the rise and fall of empires, what is left of the withered dream to transcend physical and metaphysical borders?
This exhibition on the edge of the Jordanian desert brought together artists from the countries involved with the Ottoman-built Hejaz railway built from Medina to Istanbul in 1908 in a bid to explore the possibilities of, and barriers to, regional cohesion. By staging the exhibition in the Giza station, we repopulate the Hejaz Railway with artworks, installations, and performances that use remnants of the rail lines and explore the contemporary relevance of the train and the time in which it was built.
